Repair and replastering of Dorchester Corn Exchange

The ceiling of the iconic Dorchester Town hall was found to be in a poor condition. Working closely with Dorchester Town Council, G. Curtis and Sons were asked to sympathetically repair and replaster the ceiling.

At the same time we had to maintain the use of the building for events and Town Council meetings. The local paper, The Dorset Echo, included an article on the ceiling (photo right).

This is not the first time concern has been expressed about the building. When the landmark clocktower was added in 1864 courtesy of Alderman Galpin, 16 years after the opening of the "new" Corn Exchange townsfolk took one look at the thin supporting column and concluded that it would fall down very soon. "Galpin's Folly", as it became known, is still standing 143 years later!

G. Curtis and Sons carried out the repair and replastering to the highest standard to ensure that the repair was in keeping with the historical nature of the building whilst making it safe for many years to come.
